ADVISOR: DISASTER RISK REDUCTION AND CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION – Maputo

Job Detail

Responsibilities:

Serves as embassy’s focal point on disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation;
Ensure mainstreaming of climate adaptation in the embassy’s portfolio;
Responsible for grant management and follow up and liaison with partners;
Provide analysis and input to the embassy’s reporting and strategic planning;
Other tasks as decided by the Head of Mission.

Requirements

Master’s Degree in international relations, Disaster Risk Management, Environmental Science, Engineering, Political Science, Social Science, or a related field with at least five years of relevant professional experience; or
Bachelor’s degree in the above fields with at least seven years of relevant professional experience;
Demonstrated experience in preparedness, disaster risk reduction, and climate change adaption, and related areas relevant to project development and management, as well as thematic capacity building;
Experience in liaison, advocacy with governmental and diplomatic officials, national and international institutions and organizations, civil society, and private sector actors;
Experience working in an international, inter-governmental, or non-governmental organization, United Nations, or government;
Experience in the design and implementation of projects relating to preparedness, disaster risk reduction, and climate change adaptation;
Strong analytical skills combined with the ability to effectively summarize, present, and communicate findings;
Demonstrated knowledge and expertise of international standards and classifications relevant to preparedness, disaster risk reduction, and climate change adaptation;
Proven agent of change or willingness to foster a culture of learning and knowledge management;
Fluency in English and Portuguese.
